The Soulful Voice Reviving Classic Country
From the heart of Columbus, Mississippi, Jessica Horton emerges as a compelling singer-songwriter, seamlessly blending vintage soul with classic country, gospel, and occasional rock influences. Raised on the timeless tunes of Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, and Hank Williams, Jessica began her musical journey at just three years old alongside her beloved “Pop” Jess, who taught her guitar and piano. Together, they performed in old schoolhouses, opry houses, and festivals, celebrating the rich heritage of early country music.
After her grandfather’s passing, Jessica deepened her musical roots at Mississippi University for Women, earning a degree as a soprano vocalist and music educator. In 2018, she partnered with Dennis and Leslie McKay of M.A.C. Records, launching a prolific recording career.
Her debut project, Both Feet In (2019), featured Top 10 Christian Country singles such as "Tough As a Pine Knot," "Pictures," and "He Hears My Every Prayer," earning her the SGN Scoops’ "Sunrise Artist of the Year" award that same year.
In 2020, Jessica released her first independent EP Let Go, which explores themes of surrender with a grassy flair. The following year, her album Songs That Raised Me (2021) paid tribute to the timeless classics that shaped her artistry. Building on this success, Jessica claimed top honors in multiple songwriting competitions in 2020 and 2021, further cementing her reputation as a gifted songwriter.
In June 2021, her single "I Have a Friend" soared to #1 on the SGN Scoops Bluegrass Chart and gained traction across Southern Gospel and Christian Country charts. She opened for Grammy Award-winning artists Trey Hensley and Rob Ickes, delivering performances that blend original works with classic country renditions.
In 2024, Jessica starred as the iconic music legend Patsy Cline in the two-person play Always, Patsy Cline, delivering a memorable performance that embodied both the spirit and voice of the classic star. The success of these shows created public demand, resulting in the launch of a traveling tour of the theatre production which continues to this day.
In January 2025 she released her latest worship album "Communion," featuring four original songs. Later that year, Jessica was invited on a three day tour, opening for country legends Ronnie McDowell, Jeff Bates, Tony Jackson, and members of the Coral Reefer Band. The tour culminated at the esteemed Ellis Theatre, home of Marty Stuart's Congress of Country Music.
To date, Jessica has released over 30 original songs, showcasing her creativity and versatility. She stays busy captivating audiences on tour, crafting heartfelt new songs, and recording music that continues to inspire fans of classic country and beyond. Her latest album "Old Churches and Wildflowers," a collaboration with musicians Lauren Stewart and Henry Hilliard, has already begun to top gospel music charts since launching in November.
